At TalentKraft, we embrace diversity and support inclusion. In this Talent Spotlight series, we bring you the stories of our talents from diverse backgrounds. Read on to learn more about who they are and why TalentKraft is their company of choice.
With over 20 years of hands-on experience in the HR space, Siao Ping has become a leader in the Human Resources (HR) field and a consultant on people-related topics across diverse industries in the APAC region.
Q1. Tell us more about your professional career leading up to TK.
Siao Ping: I started my HR career as a trainer at IBM, where my manager shared with me that I was selected as I possessed the key traits to be a successful internal trainer – good public speaking & excellent presentation skills, observant, and one who is always well-prepared. Working as a trainer is my first touchpoint in the Human Resources (HR) field.
After several years as a trainer and holding Learning & Development (L&D) management roles, I was given the opportunity to move into HR. Subsequently, I became a Regional Director of HR and Head of HR in several multinational companies, primarily in the banking and Information Technology (IT) industries. I also had short stints working with the public sector.
As an HR person, I deal with various aspects of human resources-related challenges. I am convinced that human capital can be a company’s most important asset if treated well and professionally. As I helped employees grow, I also learned and grew.
Q2. Apart from your professional endeavours, what are your passions?
Siao Ping: There are several passions I have in my life! Firstly, learning is my passion. Apart from being a trainer professionally, I am also an Eel (Eternal & Engaged Learner) who is always in learning & observing modes. I read widely, including newspapers, books, and online platforms, to broaden my knowledge and perspective. I believe it is good to read widely to help me become wise. Wisdom is more important than intelligence.
Secondly, I believe in speaking up and expressing my views for the betterment of society. I have been writing to the Straits Times Forum page for several years now.
Thirdly, I like to keep fit and stay healthy. Exercise has become a habit of mine. Exercise regularly is a disciplined way to increase stamina and train for perseverance.
Last but not least, I loved travelling during the pre-COVID period and am always fascinated by European architecture, arts, and lifestyle.
Q3. Why join TalentKraft?
Siao Ping: TalentKraft is a strategy consultancy firm that helps organisations unlock business value through HR. I find consultancy interesting as consultants share some similar job traits as trainers. For example, as a trainer, I impart what I know to those learning from me. As a consultant, I use my knowledge and experience to help clients solve their problems.
Additionally, TalentKraft is open to mid-career and fresh graduates who want to learn the consulting trade. With deep knowledge in Human Resources, I believe I can add value and help clients address their people-related challenges. This will in turn, contribute to the growth of their organisations, through better performing employees.
